Purpose

I made my boyfriend Jace a crystal bracelet, and he knew nothing about crystals, so I built him somewhere to look up what every stone on his wrist is for.

What it does

A menu, a page per crystal, a chakra section and a read-me, with the finished bracelet at the end. Every stone gets written for one person rather than described in general, citrine for the smile, tiger's eye for the confidence, amethyst because it's my birthstone. There's a song playing behind it, with a mute in the corner for anyone who'd rather not.

How it's made

No build step and no framework, it's HTML, CSS and JavaScript served as written, which for a site of a dozen pages of artwork is the whole of what's needed. The interesting work was upstream of the code: getting the artwork made, and getting eleven crystal photographs to sit on a white page without their backgrounds.

  1. The artwork

    Canva

Every page, the bubble lettering and the crystal illustrations. The design exists before the code does, the pages are laid out here first, then built.

  2. The cutouts

    Claude

The crystal photographs are found online. Claude took the background off each one so they sit on the page as objects rather than as photographs in boxes.

  3. The site

    HTML, CSS, JavaScript

Hand-written, no framework and no build. Sound with a mute in the corner, and a nav across menu, crystals, chakras and a read-me. Laid out to work on a phone as well as a laptop, Jace was only ever going to read it on his.

  4. Going live

    Netlify

Deployed straight from the folder, the first thing I ever put on the internet.

Where it started

This is the first thing I ever built. It's where I learned to deploy a site, and where I learned how to ask an AI for what I actually wanted rather than what I could already describe, which turned out to be the skill everything since has rested on. It began as a four-page flipbook that turned like a paper book, with a song behind it, and grew into the site it is now.
